‘Lovin” was one of the donkey donger tunes of the summer while Mr D’Void’s
collaborations with Phil Kieran were among the year’s sickest. So to cap a
highly-successful year, he now teams up with Barcelona’s Sian and shoots out
a house monster with techno underpants. It kicks off with Funk D’Void’s
Cocktail Mix, an intoxicating blend of classic deep house chords and
strings, 808 cowbellism and modern toppings and groove-power. This old
school knowledge has always been the man’s secret weapon and here he
brandishes it fearlessly like a huge sonic salami. Sian’s Leopardskin Remix
establishes a gorgeous taut momentum with booming bass, sensory
pulse-tickling and choral stabs. Then Onionz peels off a winner, heightening
the old school house flavour with new bassline and large riffs before Djinxx
takes it into deep techno terrain, building layers until it’s bottomless
enough to drown in. Not a week seems to have gone by this year without me
frothing over the latest Soma missive and they still keep icing the cake!
