Yes, Taka Boom, a proper soul sister of being the sibling of Chaka Khan, singer for Joey Negro, even a later member of the Undisputed Truth. Here she plants her sultrily atmospheric tones over a sublime electronic house backdrop whipped up by Christopher Spero, aka Glimpse, making his debut on the much-respected Four: Twenty label. The groove is a spaced and minimal tick-tock affair giving the lady plenty of space to whip up the atmosphere, assisted by eerie backing vocals. Solid remixes too: Tom Demac takes a moodier, deeper approach reminiscent of classic Detroit house while heightening the sexy quotient. Compost’s Jay Shepheard drops a nice pair; his Alternative Mix upping the energy level with some propellant stab action while his Main Remix amplifies the elements to include effective jazz-techno flavours. Bonus track ‘Always On My Own’ is a brilliant surprise, descending into hyopnotic deepness with a gorgeous feel. This could well be one of the labels of the year.
