As a wannabe DJ in my teens (and trust me when I say this was during an era when no one wanted to be in charge of changing the records as it meant less “making out” time!) Earth Wind & Fire’s ‘Lets Groove’ was a stable of my sets. Returning over 25 years on the once magical pairing of Philip Bailey’s falsetto and a flatulent synth-bassline is replaced by chanteuses Tasita D’Mour and Sol and a production more akin to the Brand New Heavies then the disco gods EW&F. And that’s no bad thing as trying to replicate the original would only leave you on a hiding to nothing. Instead by opting to follow a more organic and funky path SLS have created a song that stands up in its own right and will keep the purists happy. Even the clubbed up mixes by Mustafa and Frisco keep the vibe refreshingly different. One for the beach and Hed Kandi sets.
