If you like a good old ear worm, Hunzed & Harvey’s ‘Sheeta’ EP will have you humming from first yawn and wriggle till Cocoa and cookies time. ‘Sheeta’ is simple enough – the glass bottle loop probably no more than 8 notes to the melody and a chugging, jacking beat and jabbing synth pads that will french kiss you to within an inch of needing the nearest oxygen tent. The original has strings, Mendo’s mix has a fatter kick but they’re both pretty special whatever ? ‘Rhayla’ is a deeper consideration – introspective sounds compressed and rarified with bamboo percussion and bottle hits, tumbling like dissonant, perfect crystals in an ice queen’s jewellery box. This is a record I have loved since hearing ‘Sheeta’ played out in a club, have bought it with my own good money (not a whiff of promo about this review) and will take great pleasure in hammering it until everyone gets Pharrell sick of it. Italians really do do it better sometimes. So there.
