Jack Holiday’s ‘Yes’ is destined for big things apparently but not for the reasons the blurb says it is. It’s bouncy, bright and hooky but unless my eyes are deceiving me, Jack Holiday’s emperor is stark bollock naked here. As far as I can hear (and to all intents and purposes) this is Gusto – Disco’s Revenge, stripped down and tarted up for the 2015 but WITHOUT GIVING A SINGLE CREDIT TO THE SOURCE. I don’t mind people using other people’s work as a jump off (hell that’s what I would do if I wanted to leap frog the creative process in the studio) but I have to stick my ‘time to be unpopular’ turtle neck out and say that I am getting a bit tired of outright plagiarism like this. For sure it’s for a market / demographic that are too young and have probably never heard the source track before but to me and my screaming conscience this is a million shades of wrong and unoriginal. On the plus side, the production is slick and the track will probably be a hit whatever and I am pretty sure I will play it on radio if there is a drought that week or if it gets play listed but I can’t condone passing off someone else’s work as your own without giving some kind of thanks or props to the artist concerned. Rant over. And breathe.
