Jagwar Ma – Uncertainty – Marathon

If, as they say, a change is as good as a rest, then ‘Uncertainty’ ticks a lot of boxes. A rotund and lovely electro bassline fills out the spacious intro, then the breezy indie rock vocal, jangly, tinny guitar and live drum kit flesh it out till its buttons are almost popping. Ewan Pearson’s tick, tick, tock, tock rhythm pattern corrals your ears and speakers from the outset. Then zipper strippers do their thing on the shiny effects driven centre-pole, whip crack beats drive it forward and then at the drop, Jagwar Ma’s indie vocal slides like a silk scarf blindfold over the brooding, buzzing, Wells Fargo chugging electro rock arrangement. It’s great. And then some. The lyric asks: ‘How can you look so gloomy?’ Er … No long faces here, mateys.
