Kerri Chandler – Hallelujah – King Street Sounds

Kerri Chandler’s energetic classic from 1996 sounds every bit as fiery now as it did back then. In fact you could almost say more so, showing some new contenders just how it’s done. Based around an insistent Church styled organ played out against taught tech bass and hot R&B vocals this has a certain genre defining, timeless quality to it that is hard to replicate. No easy task but German dup Robosonic pull it off impressively by giving the drums plus bass a fresh feel while very wisely letting the original organ replay itself, and also by further expanding the breakdown into fevered possibilities. Two more remixes come from Mihalis Safras and J. Barnum who both drop the signature keys to explore differing funky aspects of the track, both of which it has to be said do so distinctively.
