Kidnap Kid – Stronger / Like You Used To – (Black Butter Records)

‘Stronger’ isn’t your run of the mill house track. Its indie roots reach through the surface, then bury deep via the bassline for a funk-infused journey to the core of your being. A ghostly female vocal drifts in and out, entwining itself around the beat like a cardiomyocyte until it plants itself inside your head, pounding and pulsing in time with your heartbeat. ‘Like You Used To’ is the less challenging but no less gratifying listen. It’s a straight up, love lost ballad that marries a sweet vocal with acid scarred lyrics. Fur Coat’s diamond cut progressive mix of ‘Like You Used To’ closes the package and that’s the measure of it. Kidnap Kid and Black Butter Records just get stronger with each release.
