Kiwi – The Mara EP – (Blase Boys Club)

Bleeps, squelches, arpeggiated melody lines and native American sounding vocal encouragement form the basis for London DJ, Kiwi’s intriguing triple tracker. In its original skin, ‘The Mara’ is a linear yet hypnotic, screeching squeal-fest with a garage skip and a driving, monotone bassline. It’s like driving down the M1 at 5 in the morning, doing 90 mph in the middle lane and it’s pouring with rain. Yeah, that and all that it entails. Duke Dumont lends his vision, by building the drama with a stepped and layered, throbbing, gristly bassline interpration that makes you shiver with its wide angle reverse snares, that whips you into submission with its cyclonic tornado winds and pounds your senses with its squealing acidic bleeps. ‘Gerenuk’ is a splashing shadow dancer that’s propelled by a sinewy, arpeggiated bassline, steady kick and techno soul. Underground vibes aimed straight at the dancefloor.
