Its been a while since I’ve heard the funky tones of Mr James Brown on a record so this from Larry Cadge comes as a most pleasant surprise. Not least of all because of the heavy-duty funk driven beats and accompanying guitar lick, but equally impressive is that this seamlessly repetitive production ticks all the party boxes while remaining faithful to the underground. Second track, ‘My Roots’ subtlety replays a classic Disco sample over punchy handclaps with sweeping sound effects for added measure. Either way this sparkles.
