Audiojack’s Gruuv imprint sets the records straight with music that isn’t so much about reminiscing as about looking forward. Sure, the reference points all here from the rave-era stabs of ,’ Ghetto What’ to the Say Yeah vocal chants but then this also feels curiously in-vogue with its rough garage bassline and rude beats. The Phil Weeks Ghetto Dub provides the perfect alternative by re-tweaking the elements, although it’s the heavy-duty breaks and inspired tech bass of, ‘Set Me Free’ which sounds biggest of all here. Also check the tasty A1 Bassline Nostalgic Mix for that sure-fire shot of fuzzy retro pads and sassy percussion.
