Picked up from New York Underground Collective label, Marlon D’s “Afrika…” follows a simple filtered groove over which the old-school “Afrika” vocal is looped and stuttered alongside the Leroy Caster sample “What we gonna do here is go back”. Very familiar, and works a treat dropped at that precise moment – it’s easy to see why Swing City are talkng this one up some. Some might favour the dub which utilises sparser samples over some nicely produced tribal elements. “Bodyswerve” was an anthem for M-Gee a while back and is now spruced up via new Grant Nelson mixes. Even if you played this to death first time, you need to check this new mix, as it’s one of Nelson’s finest – funky guitar line, filtered disco keys, great drops and, of course, Mica Paris’s excellent singing – can’t fail.
