Now based in Berlin, Matthew Styles has been a DJ most of his life, manages the Crosstown Rebels label and now appears on Dinky’s Horizontal label with a sublimely intricate pair of deep house throb-scapes shot with minimal traces. Space is the place on the darkly resonant title cut, the efx breathing down the neck of the gently resilient pulse, punctuated occasionally by ruler-style boyng noise. ‘Double Exposure’, which also appears on Dinky’s Get Lost 3 mix for Crosstown Rebels, strips down even further to a night-crawling whisper. It’s a full three minutes before the bass kicks in. When it does the effect is shattering. Berlin’s obviously bringing out the best in a definite talent to watch.
