MICHAEL GRAY
THE WEEKEND
EYE INDUSTRIES

Guess what? As the summer approaches ‘The Weekend’ is back for another round. Not that Mike Gray’s single didn’t score well in 2004 but after years of hard graft the Full Intention hustler sure deserves a monster hit. Split over two 12…s this solid bunch of new mixes will undoubtedly kick off immediate global interest. With its timeless Prelude synths, distinctive feelgood vibe and rallying chorus, this is one joyful disco song that will keep on getting played no matter what. On vinyl A, Albert Cabrera sticks to the winning formula of the original, pumping it up a touch and crancking the flanger up to 11 in the filtered breakdown (126 BPM). Juan Magan & DJ Puku combine tribal latin beats with soulful piano, a rolling b-line and the female vocals – ideal for slightly darker sets. On 12… B, Ian Carey gets his wah pedal and rhythm guitars out for a funky rendition that really works (127). Last but not least DJ Chus & David Penn deliver a pad-led balearic re-rub that takes  ‘The Weekend’ to new anthemic level (127).
