Debut single from 22 year old Mika who, according to the record company blurb, is a sparkling cocktail of Freddie Mercury, Prince and Bolan. Mika certainly has a pleasing voice, but it’s the Ashley Beedle disco touch that makes this thing shimmer like a heatwave. Check the Castro Dub Discomix for a sassy bassline that takes centre stage, swirling percussion underpinning the repeated vocal for a peaktime winner. The Castro Vocal Discomix offers a smoother, more commercially minded mix, but still employs that excellent bass sound. Apparently the song will be released on 7″ only minus these mixes so be quick hunting down the promo before it disappears.
