Slipping out quietly but already causing a stir is Danny Ward [aka Dubble D] with his follow-up to last year’s Kenny Dixon tribute ‘the Player’. Classic 2020 well and truly in the house, mining a deep seam not often encountered but grooving in similar subterranean stratas to early 90s NYC house labels like Right Area or Worm’s Knob. There’s even the good old fire and brimstone preacher to stir things up. However, far from being just replication, the man adds his own touches like alien efx and sci-fi melody snatches. The Bum Bum Drum Rub hits a testicular swing, homing in on the groove minus preacher to mesmerising effect. Finally, the Future Beat Investigators Remix lashes the tune to 2008 minimal-style spaciness with a Strictly Rhythm dub aura hitting a hypnotic, stab-propelled plateau which rolls on endlessly into the early hours. A towering proper house release.
