In a world where deep house meets afro house and jazz house for an evening jam session over cigars and mezcal, Nandu’s ‘Trail’ and the sum of its three fabulous parts is most certainly the result. ‘Deux’ is a curiously sparse arrangement with a mumbled vocal prompt, hollow horn drive, hissing synths and crisp, rustling snares. ‘Mixture’ is an offbeat chugger, think a river steamboat journey through the analog and digital, through repression and release via wet timbale and clave patterns, soft, velvet and suede covered kicks, twanging metallic hits, intricate rhythms and hand claps like a slap in the face with a wet and oily rag. Overall it’s a pictureque and evocative journey and a ‘Trail’ that never goes cold.
