NATHAN BARATO – WHEN I DO – (KALUKI)

The newest recruit to be signed to the always impressive Kaluki label is none other than Nathan Barato. As well as being a fine producer, he is someone who has been a key player at Marco Carola’s Music On night in Ibiza and is also a Kaluki regular. Here he serves up one fresh new cut and gets remixed to great effect by Pirate Copy, Solardo and Rudosa who all come up trumps. When I Do (My Thang) is a full fat house cut that is busy, full of robust beats and floor filling vocals. It is high energy and full of glow, with driving synths and crisp class making you move your ass. The vocals and clever filters just help finish it off in even more style. Kaluki Residents Pirate Copy strip things back to make the track a more deep and skipping, garage influenced affair that is full of lovely groove. Then comes a slick remix that is full of ghetto flavours and corrugated drum lines from Solardo, who is reportedly a big favourite with the Jamie Jones and the Hot Creations crew. His track might well be the best of the lot but Rugosa, who gets support from the likes of Loco Dice for his work, also comes up trumps. His version is a peak time techno roller with dark robot vocals and icy hi hats all joined by a rubbery, seductive drum groove and bass combo. Overall, this is a fine EP from a fine label.
