I have always liked Nicky Romero’s ‘Feet On The Ground’ – it’s a challenging listen that has a rocked out show-stopping effect when programmed and dropped at the right moment when played out live. Remixes so far have been cool but missed my mark since as marvellous as they are neither Arno Cost nor Merk & Kremont has managed to nail the perfect, turnaround rewiring that injects it into the global consciousness. Now Flashmob step up to the plate for a housier reworking and … it is really rather good. They layer the full vocal over simple beats and a wavering synth wash, then drop it for a vocal free bass and beats section which carry the track and (like Arno Cost’s soaring progressive melodic outing) it works well. The raw rock energy is replaced by a smooth, jazzy chord progression and the funky bassline walks it stridently onto the dancefloor. The ‘Do You Feel It Baby’ prompts and ad libs help with the whoop it up factor and there’s a dub just in case the vocal is the element that leaves you cold. Like the others it’s not a National Chart hit but it’s more radio friendly with an underground appeal.
