I’ve lost count of the times I’ve said that Italy’s Rebirth imprint keeps on topping its last monster-tune but here they go again, rounding off another brilliant year with a deeply-magical outing from hot German producer Rampa and Brooklyn-based chanteuse Nomi Ruiz, who’s recently been making a heavenly mark with Hercules & Love Affair. Here the pair embark on some lush, sweeping space-disco with airy chorale and grippingly-melodic forays from Nomi, which is all very intoxicating in the extreme. Pete Gooding’s remix injects electro and acid flavours, while &Me’s treatment is faster and chunkier with lovely deep chords. Lastly, Rub ‘N’ Tug’s Eric Duncan slips into his DrDunk turbo-jockeys to turn in a space-jazz gem with tribal percussive undertow which heightens those distinctive chords. Really one of the best this great label has put out this year – which is saying something.
