Onno – Some Mo – (Upon You)

Onno has long been touted as a producer of some nous amongst those in the know, so it’s no real surprise that their latest has found a home on Upon You, an imprint with a penchant for classy sounds. For their most recent release, the Dutch producer serves up another cracking EP that only emphasizes this standing. Uncompromising and unfussy, this is an EP that earns its stripes thanks to its heady and intoxicating take on house. The title-track, Some Mo, might be deceivingly simple in structure, but it’s also a devastatingly effective piece of razor sharp house that’ll linger long in the memory long after the night’s drawn to a close.

Martin Landsky’s remix’ is my favourite, however. A spiky and up-tempo jam that lets a load of swirling beats into the equation, the end result is a frenzied number that also packs a serious punch thanks to its fervent kicks especially. ‘’Stabbing Sally” is no less emotive, with its captivating snares and its bulbous synths setting it out as a track of some distinction. The most banging of the lot, it sees us out with a gliding sense of purpose that’s hard to match.
