Paul McCartney & Wings VS Timo Maas & James Teej – Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five – (Virgin Records Germany)

Sometimes it takes someone else to come up with what might seem on paper like a crazy idea for it to be quickly acknowledged as actually a rather good one. And while by no means all of McCartney’s songs would/ could/ should work this well in electronic format, 1985 however does so. The original appeared back in the early seventies as part of the ‘Band on the Run’ album and its rough, rocky production sits well over Timo Maas & James Teej’s sizzling hi-hat infused rhythm section as added off-the-wall keys and effects supply additional tension. There are a couple of versions to take your pick from with the Club Mix sounding particularly vigorous, plus a short hand Radio Edit is also included so who knows where this might end up.
