Whisper it, but progressive might be making a comeback. And no, we’re not referring to the sort of ‘prog’ that Diggers et al were putting their hand to at the turn of the millennium, but we mean progressive in a techno/progressive sense; the type, in short, that Frameworx music owner Pieter Steijger seems to serve up with some consistency. His latest EP sees him take sole control, as he introduces us to two very different sides of his musical make-up, both of which leave us enthralled and yearning for more. As you might expect from a track named ‘Vicious’, the opener doesn’t mess around. Full of spiky synths and unrelenting attitude, it moves at a robust and sturdy pace, before the nimble melodies let a sense of light to creep in. On the other hand, we have ‘Imagine’, the sort of track we were alluding to in the opening paragraph. Full of hypnotic, blissful sheens, this one is all about the crisp drums and the glowing chords; both of which are the standout features here. Top drawer stuff.
