There are literally hundreds of them in the extended Southampton and Portsmouth Punch Funk posse. Whilst local heavyweights like James Talk are well established, labels like Bass for Breakfast and the roaming club night Punch Funk are steadily making their mark on the UK club scene. They certainly share the work around, as almost all of them seem to be capable of knocking up precision measured charges of dance floor dynamite. Rob Mooney’s latest track straddles D Ramirez’s former Nu Skool tribal sound with a dash of minimal house altered funk. “In The Water” marries punch bass with melodic chords. “In The Water” is all squiggly synths and driving kick drums. For us “Drivers” is the killer track on this EP – a relentlessly building tribal affair that grabs the dance floor by the scruff of it’s neck. Get it.
