Just to show where much of this began, Juno raise the bar for the third release in their so-far stunning series of twelves to mark their tenth anniversary. ‘Clear’ was one of the first electronic classics, appearing nearly a quarter century ago but enough to deify Juan Atkins as a Godfather Of Techno. The original is here in its proto-electro glory, basically Detroit’s answer to ‘Planet Rock’, now joined by sympathetic new treatments. Cobblestone Jazz took the brave step of replicating the track live and improvised, Louderbach goes the minimal bubbler route, and Troy Pierce turns in a typical monster, his combination of killer hook and deft minimal groove manipulation making for a fantastic refurbishment of this true classic. You know it’s a hot series when you just can’t wait for the next installment.
