Roman Flugel has a production coat of many colours and for the title track of his ‘Sliced Africa’ EP he fans us with feathers of the brightest hues, marrying his techno roots with magical african rhythms, agitated finger cymbals, and tweaks it with township sounding, electro synth melodies to create a stunning soundscape that will make you shimmy and sand dance from Berlin to London to Miami to Ibiza to Barcelona to Playa Del Carmen and back. This is the biggest of big tunes just waiting for those end of year chart plaudits to rack up. ‘Black Towers’ powers a cross country steam train ride, stoking the boiler with tonnes of beat heavy bars and rolling out on an infinitely extending, clicking track. One hand (or one finger) in the air, keep moving. If you know, then you know. And to complete the triptych, ‘Spiritual Enhancer’ takes us on a Kraftwerk inspired, 80s reminiscent synth electro journey that could almost be an out-take from ‘Autobahn’ itself. Three different snapshots of the multi-faceted profile of the dj / producer with the kaleidoscope mind. It’s a true journey with an open return ticket.
