Subtitled “keep the vibe alive”, it’s testament to the great man’s prolific musicianship, adaptability and influence that his music crosses so many spectrums appealing to young and old in the process. On the cusp of his 70th birthday Roy Ayers shows no signs of slowing down: the embodiment of positive and creative energy at its zenith. While having witnessed first hand Bah Samba’s live show, they can more than aptly handle themselves against their peers, and are the perfect accompaniments to the vibraphonist great. Add mixes from Ashley Beedle (deep, dubby ‘n highly seductive), Andy Ward (built around a killer funky slap base house groove) and Super-Phonics (who owe much to the Sunburst Band style) and you’ve one tight and street-smart package. Bridging the vintage jazz-funk, house and nu-jazz divide with ease, there’s nothing but good vibes here.
