Newcomer to the scene, Skapes’ discography already boasts releases on UKF and Cheap Thrills ‘Make Me Feel’ is an old skool à la RIP Groove meets nu skool collision between garridge and grime with a bassline that could cause seismic tremors on any dance floor. ‘You Don’t Stop’ has swirls of vocal sweetness and colourful synth washes that usher in a sneaky little bassline drop by the back door. It really hits its stride with ‘Shadows’ featuring Tigerlight – an uptempo, soulful boompty bouncer with a bass line that swings like King Kong late for a hot date. Then ‘Touch The Sky’ featuring Lex One works the Annie Lennox ‘Little Bird’ ‘I Got A Feeling’ lyric and a rapped vocal intro into a cool, underground, deep house roller. With two crossover possibilities and two underground crowd pleasers here plus remixes in the pipeline for Todd Terry and Hervé, it’s pretty safe to say that Skapes is one producer who is most certainly stepping out of the shadows and into the limelight. One to watch for 2015.
