In recent weeks there’s been quite a buzz building over the blue-eyed
soulstress from LA, and for once the PR hyperbole is fully justified. All
hail the emergence of major new star. ‘Rise’, a smooth and enchanting blend
of lite house, fused with her Sade-esque vocals, rightly became her first
hit, recently topping the Billboard Dance Charts. And on the eponymous
titled album the theme continues with a beautiful marriage of bossa nova
rhythms, swinging house beats and soulfully delivered lyrics that ooze of a
rare quality. ‘Breathe You In’, ‘Living Without You’ and ‘Send It Out To The
Universe’ a trio of essential listens. James’ blend of musical styles and
lyrical messages is diverse enough to satisfy nearly every listener’s aural
taste buds with her acoustic rooted melodies and earth house production, set
your CD Player to ‘repeat’ and this quickly will become an mesmerising
listen.
