This is set to raise a few eyebrows as it works it’s way towards the top of the hit parade. There’ll be whispering in the streets and looks of disbelief as word gets round that Bloc Party have made a house influenced record. “One More Chance” was recorded with Jacknife Lee and mixed in Paris by Phillipe Zdar (Phoenix, Cassius), and the results are stunning. There’s still all the trademark angst with intense vocals, but the rhythms are on the swinging 4/4 tip and are accompanied by back in the day Italo scream up piano, complete with breakdowns and club choruses. There’s a whole host of mixes to choose from, but the best by far are Bloc Party’s “Extended Mix”, the “Alex Metric Remix” which is shot through with pulsing electronics that boost the dancefloor element and place it directly beneath the mirror ball, and rounding things off is one of house music’s grandmasters Todd Terry, doing what he’s famous for. “One More Chance” is going to be Bloc Party’s biggest record to date. Watch this fly.
