There’s several remakes of ’80s club classics in the dance charts at the moment (Philippe B, Hi_Tack, Burning Divaz, P.Diddy & Felix Da Housecat, Herd & Fitz. I could go on). Add to list Supafly Inc’s honest cover of the cult Prince track. Never released as a single in the UK (in America it was paired back in 1984 with ‘Let’s Go Crazy’) it has since become a near perennial favourite with producers striving to fulfil the song’s commercial potential. Greek-Australian Panos Liassi (aka Fishbowl) has also had his fair share of attempts at breaking this song – initially on Gut Records two years ago, and then retweeked last year for Subliminal. His latest update of Paisley Park classic is sung by fellow Aussie songstress, Deni Hines, and now finds Carl Ryden and Josh Nordlander injecting some much-needed identity into the grooves in their respective bumping disco house mixes. Third time lucky me thinks.
