Quite possibly the best band in the world. And “Sixteen” is quite possibly the best song they’ve done yet. For those who may have been asleep recently, The Heavy are a UK outfit who successfully blend a heavy reverence for old psych, rock, hip-hop and whathaveyou, happily acknowledging their influences as they busily carve out their own unique sound with them. Live or recorded, they convey the same passion and enthusiasm and impress everyone within earshot. How does “Sixteen” sound? Furiously bumping drums, impassioned bluesy wailing, scuzzy horns and flirtatious swingtime melodies – it’s 21st century blues with a deep soul swagger. In a word, awesome.
