‘I’m The One’ is Veerus and Maxie Devine’s second EP for Suara and a four track delight. ‘I’m the One’ is a soulful vocal roller that digs deep and hits a deep house gusher that would do Texaco proud. ‘Click’ is a tribal tech house treat with muzzy drums, effects that sound like the door shearing off a rocket as it launches, a freaky chorus and white noise sizzled, w-w-womp womp womp build up that makes you wonder if you haven’t been bodysnatched and woken up in Chewbacca’s body. ‘Who Yeah’ works the ticklish hi-hats and handclaps into a discordant, jazzy body slam that’s whipped up to a fine froth by a gospel sounding ‘yeah yeah’ chorus and the incessant ‘let me be close to you’ male vocal loop. Finally ‘La isla’ is an ambient soundscape that broods longer than a lover spurned. Good stuff. And all on on EP.
