The Alfa Romero label has been cruising along nicely in recent times, picking up DJ and dancer fans alike along the way. Now for the first time instead of releasing an individual artists solo EP, the imprint pulls together a range of talents for its first ever Various Artist EP. The results are fantastic and show just what a breadth of talent the label can draw on. Anthony Megaro with Sensation goes first. It’s a nice deep track with lots of reverb rich melodies and squelchy perc. Then Mazu impresses with ‘By The Gun Behind’, a bubbling, busy, warm and rich house track with streaming melodies and a nice sense of groove. Cardace & Perazzini’s ‘Drinkin’ in NY’ then bares all the hallmarks of classic, shuffling garage house cut from the NYC scene gone by and Lancaster’s Mental Moments then dives into bendy, supple synth laden house territory with classic jack vocal samples and finally Karasho gets all bumpy, percussive and loopy on his effort. This great EP has lots of different moods and grooves and is an essential release for working DJs. Here’s hoping the label doesn’t leave it so long next time before they release a VA EP.
