WHYT NOYZ – Dimensions – (SCI+TEC)

Top techno DJ, producer and forward thinking creative WHYT NOYZ has been one of the leading modern acts on the influential Minus label for a little while now. What started out as a project made up of two men, though, is now very much a solo concern for David and the music released by him has changed as a result. That is proven once again with a new EP on Dubfire’s SCI+TEC label that is full of flavour. It features three tracks and it is impossible to pick them apart in terms of which is best, frankly. Get Lean is the third and final one but might just be the best – it is playful and fun, off kilter and freaky. Synths rise up and down a scale, vocals are buried deep and rubbery drums roll on and on and on. Bent on the other hand is busier and more fractured with many different drum, synth and percussive lines all doing loose and fluid dances and making you do the same. Spirit Vine then gets more dark and dirty, with frazzled future bass spraying about underneath alien vocals and sci-fi signifiers. It is a fine bit of abstract techno and closes out an essential EP from WHYT NOYZ.
