Less embarrassed by references than the politically correct Brits, Europeans can be quite naïve when it comes to pop. For example, Swedish artist Christian Falk drops ‘Mind Elevation’, unashamedly based on the classic chords of Madonna’s ‘Holiday’ (also borrowed by Bangalter and co for ‘Music Sounds Better’), bit obvious but unquestionably effective. Main track ‘Dream On’ nods to another colourful eighties personality thanks to Robyn Ola Salo who does a perfect Cindy Lauper impersonation; the result is convincing thanks to a solid song. Now you can’t always win, B2 ‘Something Good’ brings back nasty Janet Jackson memories (or could that be Five Star?).
