The electro-prog of Holden and his crew has definitely struck a (deep) chord in Germany (the Kompakt lot and other imprints). So it was only a matter of time before Border Community would sign a German act. Arne Schaffhausen & Wayan Raabe usually knock out, er psy-trance but as Extrawelt they produce good, contemplative yet upbeat, minimal trance (‘Soopertrack’ 129 BPM). By opposing skippy US beats and a very euro vocoder, ‘Zu Fuss’ creates a laidback hybrid that’s interestingly produced (133). It also comes as a sublime chilled-out variation à la Boards Of Canada/Air. On the verge of alternative/indie, this is one label with a unique vision where originality and strong ideas are always favoured.
