Hiding behind a plethora of nicknames (Klatsch!, Basco, Chocolate Puma, Tomba Vira and Jark Prongo) DJ Zki – Rene ter Horst – and Dobre – Gaston Steenkist – founded the Fresh Fruit label in 1991 and never looked back.
Here they follow previous biggies ‘Shake It’ and ‘Movin’ Thru Your System’
with ‘The Mirror’, a dark and funky builder with a sprinkle of rock à la Underworld. As usual with these talented Dutchmen it’s very well put together and produced (looped vocoder sample, mute guitar, great perc and driving elements). However for something a little more original head straight to ‘Tear This Damn Place’, a rough and ready psycho-funk track that’s got a loony DC 10 feel particularly when the unusual vocalist makes his demented intrusions (kind of John Lydon in camp mode).
