New label gets off the ground with a brilliant resurrection of the true spirit of acid house. Much-bandied about but rarely realised because few appreciate that acid house was about a primitive simplicity born out of necessity and creating a vibe and no-frills groove for a mad party. The mysterious Strobe Funk get it as they whip up surging pure acid riffs, whack in vocal bites – including the Phuture voice of doom – and set about tweaking upwards and onwards into wall-climbing territory. The eponymous flip is tougher and mesmerising, heading for a mad drop while the 303 gets twitteringly vicious and heated. This record sweats and is totally worth hunting down.
