It’s not clear why the world’s most famous DJ felt the need to record his own version of ‘Adagio For Strings’, Samuel Barber’s classical theme originally made famous by the movie Platoon. Indeed a few years back fellow Dutchman Ferry Corsten customised it for trance to perfection when he remixed it off William Orbit’s album ‘Pieces In A Modern Style’. It’s difficult to fail with such a profound chord progression… so Tiësto cranks the distortion to excess and ends up with a synthguitar-led monster that rocks (139 BPM). Fred Baker keeps the tempo up with a hellish rendition that should devastate the hardest floors (138). Danjo & Styles opt for a more solemn approach that fits particularly well the nostalgic theme (138). Phynn experiments with breakbeats and dreamy synths, then goes ballistic in the choruses (137).
