Third in a series of pure tribal excursions from the stunningly-prolific Tony Thomas and Mastik. Tony’s ‘Primitive’ is his furthest excursions into the tribal form to date, being little more than a slamming African drum pattern, chanting and haunting stabs. The hypnotic effect is further explored on the ‘Primitive Drums’ dub. Then there’s Mastik Soul’s ‘Accurate Drumming’, which works up a sparse tribal-house sweat with bits of vocal and minimal sonic prodding. Raw, unusual and full marks for bold originality.
