Moody B’s opening salvo on his new Belfast-based label was a brilliant synthesis of classic Detroit and Chicago spirit. Remarkably, with this second release from enigmatic analogue freak Le Jak, the label has already established a signature ethos [while becoming something of a personal cause]. I’ve no idea who this bloke is but, using analogue tackle and a keen sense of electronic greatness, he’s managed to create three tracks of formidable quality. ‘Blue Bandit’ sends Mayday strings flying over ‘Shaft’-style hihats, building into Sueno Latino remix territory with a dense analogue web. ‘Space Port’ builds on nagging organ with further 90s Detroit flavours, before the title track goes deeper with sci-fi noises and enveloping chords leading to a stunning drop re-entry. Top notch homaging brought into the 21st century. Can’t wait for number three!
