Double Cheese Records, the label of globe trotter and prime DJ and producer Federico Luyo is 10 years old and this circumstance is of course a great reason to celebrate. The now Mallorca resident Luyo therefore has compiled a 16 track compilation of the labels finest moments and I can only recommend to take a close look at it, if you are not familiar with the label yet. For a rather small independent imprint the Italian has been able to bring heavyweight producers like DJ Spen, Timmy Regisford, Ashley Beedle, Booker T., Opolopo or Reelsoul to the label, who are all included in this compilation with their productions.
Genre wise the label’s range reaches from deep, soulful grooves like Jodaj’s blinding ‘7mile Soul’ to more Disco esque sounds like the great Delegation cover ‘Heartache No9’ by Kyle Kim or key Afro killers like Darksidevinyl’s ‘Owana’.
The red line seems to be that all the tracks have a portion of SOUL in them and that’s of course a very good thing.
