VARIOUS ARTISTS – THE SOUND OF THE 19TH SEASON – SVEN VÄTH IN THE MIX – COCOON RECORDINGS

While you pretty much know what you’re getting from a Sven Väth compilation, that doesn’t alter the fact that he is a reliably good source of the sounds of the summer. For the 19th season it doesn’t take him long to hit the Balearic warmth with the spacious piano of Adam Port’s ‘Do You Still Think Of Me?’ and the wonderfully wide-open textures of Florian Hollerith’s ‘Ohrenzirkus’, which set the scene for a strong first mix that also includes I:Cube’s mix of Vermont’s ‘Skorbut’, Edward’s ‘Set U Free’ and the hypnotic Patrice Bäumel track ‘Serpent’. The second mix follows pretty seamlessly, a quicker set that hits a natural peak with Robag Wruhme’s ‘Veddel Baav’, the arresting DJ Koze edit of Radio Slave’s ‘Reverse’ and the final pair, an inspired blend from Michael Mayer’s ‘Lout’ to Younger Rebinds’ ‘Tim’s Symphony’. If you’ve got previous with this series, then you know exactly what to do.
