Trainspotting with DJ Applejac

DJ Applejac has been a key player on the Atlanta music scene for time with his eclectic sound that embraces hip hop, soulful house, disco and broken beat and everything in between, he’s a master of his craft both on the decks and in the studio. As a DJ, he’s performed along side alongside the likes of Daz-I-Kue (Bugz In The Attic), DJ Spinna, Benji B (BBC 1xtra), Rich Medina, Frankie Feliciano, Pete Rock and many more. As his smoking new remix of Cortney LaFloy’s ‘My Sister’ lands on I-Kue Recordings, DMC World invites DJ Applejac to select his current tunes of the moment.

Crackazat – Waterfalls (Z Records)
It’s one of those Summery anthems I put up there with Spinna’s remix of “Days Like This”. It’s made for people to dance outside together and it just feels amazing. Great tune.
Crackazat - Waterfalls

Francis Overcast – I Ain’t (Kenny Dope Remix) (Dopewax)
I always try and get the dancers open early, and this is one that really warms up the dancefloor. Kenny’s drum programming is always top shelf and this one is no different.

Cortney LaFloy – My Sister (Applejac’s Unhooked Generation Remix) (I-Kue Records)
When my good friend Daz-I-Kue hit me up to do the remix, I was immensely honored. When I heard the original, I decided to go for a more stripped down “techy” approach. I think the mix came out dope and is a nice contrast from the 2 mixes Daz put in the pack as well. Can’t wait for everyone to hear it when it drops in May.

DJ Applejac – B&P (The Sanctified Mix feat. Daniel Crawford) (Bandcamp)
I had originally put this out on my Adinkra EP back in 2018, and I always envisioned it with some good ol’ church organ on it. I decided to revisit it and get my Playlist Retreat homie Daniel Crawford on it and it came out super dope.
Manabu Nagayama & Soichi Terada – Low Tension (Jimpster Remix) (Unknown Season Records)
This one I guess people would label “Deep House”, but I just really like the vibe on this tune. It can be sexy, it can be ethereal, and dancers can still get loose to it without losing the energy. Nice opening track or late night groover.
Julius Jordan feat. Tree – Higher (Mirror Ball Recordings)
I’m a big fan of Gospel House and I try to fit a few tunes in whenever I play a House set. I find it helps bring the energy to a new level if played at the right time and it’s always a welcome sound for people who want to just open up and give themselves to the music. Terry Hunter and James Poyser (more Playlist Retreat fam) did a wonderful job on production and ‘Tree’ gives us that Dorinda Clark energy on this one as well.
Karizma – Tom’s Jam (Bandcamp)
I’ve had the pleasure of becoming friends with Karizma over the years (he even remixed me and Nicholas Ryan Gant’s cover of Crystal Waters’s “Gypsy Woman”. I think we see how amazing THAT turned out lol), and his sound is UNDENIABLY Baltimore and there’s always a Hip-Hop element to a lot of his stuff. This one is another banger of the many in his catalog. He flips a familiar tune and makes it his own and keeps the dance floor on fire.
Quintin Copper feat. Nas Mellow – Paradise (DJ Spinna Galactic Soul Remix) (Sonar Kollektiv)
This is classic DJ Spinna Galactic Soul energy right here. Another one that has that nice sexy vibe for the two-steppers, but still keeps it lit for those who want to get their life on the dancefloor. I like to see couples dancing, and this is a tune that usually brings them out.
DJ Fudge feat. David Chala – Casa De La Musica (United Music Records)
This is a nice Latin-tinged House tune with a great melody. David Chala comes through with some really nice piano work that really lays a nice foundation for the dancers to get really jazzy on the dancefloor. Nice for a outdoor/rooftop/sunset vibe.
Norty Cotto – Upside (Norty Cotto Afro Side Mix) (Naughty Boy Music)
A nice Afro-House take on the classic tune “Cavern”. Another track that gets the dancers going.
