Corbi

Welcome to DMCWORLD – where in the world are you and what’s on the cards for today?

Thanks for having me. I’m in Ibiza and today, listening to music and doing admin jobs that i’ve been putting off for a while.

What’s the best new record you’ve heard this week?

Saine – Fireflies. I’m a huge fan of Saine’s productions, for me one of the most unique and special producers out there. We signed an EP from him, the ‘Mint EP’ at the start of the year on a label I co-run called FINA Records. He mentioned back then he was working on an album so I’ve been keen to hear ever since, and certainly doesn’t disappoint, well worth a listen, it’s called ‘For The Dreamers’

You’ve been involved in the music industry for a while now, but only recently became a fully-fledged DJ and producer… can you talk us through your rise to fame?

‘Fame’, I wouldn’t really use that word, I’m just fortunate to find myself able to work and live full time in music by DJing, producing, running a label and hosting a party. Really it’s the culmination of years and years of being in the music game and taking advantage of opportunities that have come my way.

Melon Bomb has quickly become one of the most talked about parties on the island, why do you think it’s been so successful?

I think timing, a gap in the market and strong branding massively helped but having such strong support locally from our friends is the main reason, that led to word of mouth spreading the name and a really organic growth for Melon Bomb.

What’s the best thing about living in Ibiza?

Definitely the people. In the 3 years I’ve lived here I’ve made some great friends who have really helped me settle in and call this place home, plus the sun and the sea are pretty nice too.

And the worse?

As much as I love it Ibiza I do miss my family and friends back home, I’m hoping one day I can persuade them all to move out as well.

There’s been a lot of talk over the last couple of years about the VIP culture in Ibiza, and how it’s in danger of ruining the ‘real’ Ibiza. Do you see it like that? Or is there enough room for everything?

Yes you hear it a lot, but I think there’s room for everyone so it doesn’t really affect me, I just focus on what I’m doing. There are lots of parties and venues here that cater for the more underground side of things and that side will always be present on the island.

We’re loving your new record… how long have you known Anna Wall and how did you hook up with her for this?

I met Anna at Defected Records when we both worked there around 5/6 or so years ago. We’ve been good friends since. We had always said about working on productions together and so when this opportunity came about through her contacts we jumped at the chance.

And is Roger happy with the results?

Yes I hear he’s very happy, I’ve not actually met him yet but am hoping to soon.

It’s coming on MFF, which is a pretty legendary label… was finding a label as quirky as the record important for you?

Massively important, MFF is one of those labels we both loved, respected and followed for many years. When the track was done we made a list of labels where we felt it would sit best, the vibe and ethos of MFF made it our first choice so you can imagine how happy we were when Justin & Luke came back wanting to sign it.

You’ve played all over Ibiza, who throws the craziest parties in your opinion? What’s next for you?

Well my favourite parties happen at Pikes: it’s definitely the place I get my Ibiza fix. There are some great ‘not to be missed’ events there, The Freddie Mercury birthday party being one of those, a lot of island residents go and local DJ’s play. It’s just a hell of a lot of fun. The DJ Harvey ‘Mercury Rising’ nights on Mondays in August are epic, Harvey spins all night and the tunes are bang on… oh and of course the Melon Bomb parties are pretty special if I do say so myself!

Anything else we need to know about?

I mentioned earlier co-run a label called FINA Records which I do with Simon Morell, so look out for some ace new music and label showcase parties coming to a town near you.
