The long awaited Summer 2016 return of Tripswitch saw this esteemed veteran of the chillout scene evolve into a producer of the finest deeply melodic, progressive house music with the release of his critically acclaimed ‘Vagabond’ album project on Denmark’s finest forward-thinking label – Iboga Records. All summer long, Nick Brennan’s focus on exploring and developing a more dancefloor orientated ethos for Tripswitch, has seen him play live at numerous festivals worldwide, and he has now curated this superb selection of remixes to add a new creative dimension to some of his album’s finest moments.
If deepness be the food of your love, then the GMJ remix of ‘Glass Heart’ shines like a beacon in the darkness. Here, Melbourne resident, DJ Gavin Martin’s innate passion for deep, emotive electronic music takes control of one of the highlights from Tripswitch’s ‘Vagabond’ LP and re-imagines it with an exceptional remix. A restrained work of intricate beauty, Gavin builds subtle layer upon layer of distinctive imaginative excellence that captures the original essence and launches it into a whole new exciting dimension.
The Greek pairing of Kosmas & Dio S up the funk factor and raise the energy levels with their fabulously dynamic remix of ‘Vagaries’. Masters of their art, the track soars to a beautiful, melody rich climactic sequence, carried effortlessly on an intricately nuanced sturdily solid groove backbone. Nanoplex are also in tune with the original album’s elegant and refined attitude, and its showcasing of impeccably produced tracks, full of musicality and emotion. Their remix of ‘The Left Bank’ is based on an irresistible, throbbing groove around which they weave layers of melodic excellence, as the track ebbs and flows on its inspirational journey. Nanoplex is a highly creative collaborative project from Ben Coda & DJ Ipcress, two of the pioneers of the UK progressive techno scene, and this remix is a perfect example of their slick future techno style.
And the intense creativity doesn’t stop there. ‘Big Time Line’ has been reworked magnificently by the Thankyou City duo, aka Brent & Scott Mirams, who are also based out of Melbourne, Australia. Their deeply delicious take on the original builds with subtle hypnotic ease, utilising simple melodic motifs and expansive layers of lush musical pleasure.
To bring this highly creative remix project full-circle, the EP’s final remix of the mighty ‘Divine Falsehoods’ comes from the main man himself, instilling some essential Tripswitch hypnotherapy into the proceedings and re-imagining the immense original as a stripped-back cathedral-esque hymn to pure joy. The intricately spacious percussive groove and sparse musical arrangement leaves ample space for each perfectly chosen musical element to breathe and express an emotional eloquence that firmly places Nick Brennan in the category of masterful producer extra-ordinaire.
As the original ‘Vagabond’ album has already done, this new classy collection of remixes is sure to please fans old and new who are switched on to deep, melody rich, highly creative, electronic music. With numerous live shows forthcoming, and his monthly 2hr ‘Harmonics’ show on Frisky Radio that is garnering huge support worldwide, these are exciting times for Tripswitch, and even more exciting projects are set to be announced early in 2017.
