Way Out West
We Love Machine
Hope Recordings

This has been out a little while but seems to have passed under the radar for many people – but it will remind them of just how long Way Out West have been in the game, and just how good their self titled debut album was when it was released in 1997. Sure, Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff haven’t changed a great deal about their style – so in that respect they fall into line with BT and Hybrid – but what they do they still do extremely well. There might not be anything to rival ‘Domination’ or ‘The Gift’ here, but they still come close on the vintage ‘Only Love’, which has that booming bass we came to love them for. The harmonic shift in ‘Pleasure Control’, meanwhile, is also something they’ve remained especially good at. The title is a reference to the duo’s love of analogue synths – and they treat them well here, on an album that proves they’ve still got what it takes – even if the style hasn’t changed that much.
