A new one from the many-monkered Guynamite, here teamed with Analog Jones as Twin Cities for some superior modern soul-boogie action. “Raincloud” is a moody synth-poked cut with Shea Soul taking the lead vocal (you might remember her from last years club hit “Make It Funky For Me”). The song calls for a languid, smokey performance, and she more than holds her own over a slightly leftfooted but hook-laden track, although some might find her voice an acquired taste. Better yet, “Anticipation” is a straight-up soul cut with some tricksy jazz dust interwoven into the seams, lifting Duchy’s singing to the fore. Limited vinyl only as ever for this label plus a full length album is promised, too.
