Washington’s sharp suited duo need no introduction, especially on the West Coast of America and Canada, where their music frequently soundtracks bars, restaurants and clubs. While it is admittedly very classy background music it works much better turned up loud, and the guest turns they have secured over the years can be fully appreciated. The secret of their success, mind, is their ability to take influences from around the world, and especially the Middle East, to blend in with a sophisticated beat driven style, bringing elements of dub and lounge to the table. When you listen to this collection you’ll realise just how many of the songs you already know, with ‘Lebanese Blonde’, ‘The Richest Man In Babylon’, ‘Warning Shots’ and ‘Vampires’ just four of their very best. Interestingly they choose not to include the David Byrne or Perry Farrell collaborations, but that works well as it would have diverted attention from highlighting just what a fine production duo they can be.
